Jackets brace for Wave: Return of Horsley could give SHS offense boost

The Tupelo Golden Wave will present one of the toughest challenges defensively that the Starkville Yellowjackets have seen this season.
Starkville has proven it can move the football offensively by averaging 248.4 yards passing per game and 156.5 rushing per outing.
There may be some addition help on the way for the Jackets during tonight's outing against the Golden Wave.

Starkville Academy crosses paths again with Lamar School

Battle tested and battle proved certainly describes this season for the Starkville Academy Volunteers.
The Volunteers opened up against the defending MAIS AAA II State champions in Lamar School. It was in that game that fans got to truly see the marked improvement and strength of this year’s squad as Starkville Academy walked away in victory.

Eupora rolling again, hosts Simmons in 2A second round

Two weeks has almost seemed like an eternity for the Eupora Eagles.
After starting out 9-0, the Eagles fell “asleep” as coach Junior Graham said and the result was a pair of losses to Calhoun City and East Webster.
This past Friday, Eupora woke up from that dream with an offensively driven 51-44 Class 2A first round playoff victory over West Tallahatchie.

Bulldogs know stopping Cooper of the Tide will take team effort

If there's one wide receiver you want to put multiple defensive players on, that's Amari Cooper.
The Alabama wideout leads the Southeastern Conference with 1,215 receiving yards, 10 touchdowns and 135 yards per game.
He has 79 catches, 28 more than South Carolina's Pharoh Cooper, who is second in the league.

Lady Vols edge Lady Raiders in hoops

Starkville Academy girls senior Anna McKell didn't have any problem making a pass to a sophomore at a key moment of Thursday night's girls basketball game against the Oak Hill Academy Lady Raiders.
At the end of the first half, McKell found an open Bonner Hughes, who scored a basket, got fouled and made a free throw to give the Lady Volunteers an 18-12 lead at halftime.

Following a heartbreaking four-point loss Tuesday to Jackson Prep, the Volunteers stepped back on the basketball court Thursday.
This time around a different tune was played as Starkville Academy claimed the 58-46 victory over visiting Oak Hill Academy.

MSU's Mullen knows going unbeaten will be challenge

Going undefeated is something that hasn't happened very much at Mississippi State.
The Bulldog football team has done it only twice.
MSU went 3-0-2 under head coach Dan Martin in 1903 and finished the 1940 season with a 10-0-1 record.
This year's Bulldog team is 9-0 with three regular season games to go and have a chance to finish the season unbeaten.
Does it happen?

Bulldogs not sure if Wilson, Staley will be on court or not

Rick Ray's mind has not floated to De'Runnya Wilson or Elijah Staley yet.
The third-year Mississippi State head coach is only focused on the guys he has practiced with this last month and not on potential players.
Both Wilson and Staley play football. Wilson played last season, but has stated publicly that he is not sure he will play again this year. 

Golden Wave balanced team back in postseason

The Tupelo Golden Wave have gotten to where they are this season by playing as a team.
Tupelo coach Trent Hammond has gotten his team back into the Class 6A playoffs after reaching the state title game last season and lost to Oak Grove.
Despite going through some adversity during the season, the Golden Wave were able to put a good 8-3 record at this point of the season.

Season has not gone the way Lamar hoped
