More Bulldog recognition: MSU's Day, Johnson selected to preseason award watch lists

Mississippi State's football program continues to have individual players gain recognition this preseason.
A day after three Bulldogs were selected to award watch lists, two more MSU players saw their names on college football award watch lists Tuesday.

Mathiston claims state championship

At the end of the day there was one team standing in the Coach Pitch Dizzy Dean South State Championship Tournament, and after defeating Louisville 17-2 the team that emerged victorious was Mathiston.
“They came out excited,” coach Darrell Fason said. “They were ready for it. To take a group of kids from a small town and hang in with these big kids means a lot.”

Starkville 11-year olds finish as runner-up

LOUISVILLE – As the 11-year-old Dizzy Dean South State Tournament entered its final day, Starkville found itself facing Columbus for a spot in the championship game.
Ultimately Starkville took the game 9-8 to set a matchup for later in the day against Louisville.

Nine runs were the difference between a win and a loss in the Dizzy Dean South State Tournament on Saturday.
The Starkville Nationals were on the positive side of that outcome as the 7-year-olds secured a 12-3 victory over Louisville.

Heading into Saturday, Jeff Overstreet proclaimed it a new day for his 6-year-old coach pitch All-Stars.
The coach's statement was right because after dropping two games on day one of the Dizzy Dean State Tournament, the Starkville Americans started day two with a 16-8 victory over Eupora.
