Starkville High girls look to make impression at Class 6A State track meet

The Starkville High School girls track team looks to make a big impression when it participates in the Class 6A State track meet today in Pearl.
There are eight Lady Yellowjackets qualified in 12 events for the state meet and that will give them plenty of opportunities for points.
SHS track coach Caroline Woomer is excited to have so many girls participating at state.

Lady Wolverines beat rival Eagles in softball series opener

EUPORA – A season of dominance continued for the East Webster Lady Wolverines on Friday evening as they showed no signs of letting up with the Class 2A North State softball series beginning against Eupora.
East Webster pounded out 15 runs on 12 hits to slay the home-standing Eupora Eagles 15-3 in game one of the series.

MABEN – It's not accident that Koby Crowley spells his first name with a K.
As a pitcher for the East Webster Wolverines on Friday night, that's exactly what he was getting.
Crowley had seven strikeouts, including three in the last two innings when East Union had runners on base and the Wolverines defeated the Urchins 5-3 to clinch the Class 2A series in Cumberland.

East Oktibbeha's Hall signs with Coahoma

It was an end of an era at East Oktibbeha County High School on Friday, but a fresh start for Moses Hall.
Hall signed in basketball with Coahoma Community College and became quite possibly the last Titan to put his name on an athletic scholarship in the history of the school.
East Oktibbeha and West Oktibbeha are in the process of consolidating with the Starkville School District.

Ole Miss outscores MSU in baseball

OXFORD – Things weren't looking good for Mississippi State after the fifth inning Friday night.
The Bulldogs trailed in-state rival Ole Miss 12-4 after the Rebels put up a five-spot in the home half of the fifth inning.
MSU outscored the Rebels 6-1 over the final four innings, but the Bulldogs lost 13-10 to the Rebels as Ole Miss clinched its third-straight series victory over MSU.

Webster County series: East Webster, Eupora play for North 2A fastpitch softball title

Over the next two days, softball will be the talk of Webster County.
The East Webster Lady Wolverines and Eupora Lady Eagles meet in the Class 2A North State championship series with the winner punching a ticket to Ridgeland for the state championships.
With the two schools only being separated by about 10 miles, the teams are quite familiar with each other.

Rebels edge Bulldogs with a run in eighth

OXFORD – It looked like Mississippi State was going to get out of the fourth and eighth innings unscathed on Thursday night.
The Bulldogs had two outs in both frames, but Ole Miss found a way to score all four of its runs with two outs and ended up beating MSU 4-3 at Swayze Field.
