Morris, SCS girls respond for victory

Starkville Christian School girls coach Mark Horstemeyer had a pat on the head for Charity Morris when she came out with 33 seconds left of Tuesday night's game against Kemper Academy.
It was much deserved.
Morris led the Lady Cougars with 18 points and performed well in a key stretch of the third quarter as her team won a 54-39 decision over the Lady Rams.

CLINTON – The Junction, Mississippi State's tailgate area outside of Davis Wade Stadium, creates a buzz usually seven Saturdays in the fall.
Many people fill the small, compact area to get ready for a Bulldog football game, then Davis Wade becomes a mecca for three hours for loyal fans to cheer on their team.

Hazelwood will not return as MSU volleyball coach

Mississippi State volleyball coach Jenny Hazelwood will not return to her post next season, the school announced Monday.
She will be reassigned to an administrative position within the athletic department.

Mullen, Bulldogs continue to strive for championships

Dan Mullen has been adamant about winning a championship at Mississippi State since he took over the program in 2009.
Things were looking good for Mullen and the Bulldogs this season. They started the season 9-0, but lost to Alabama on the road. Even after that loss, MSU was still in a position to compete for a championship.
That was derailed on Saturday.

Wolverines reflect on successful season

Football season has come and gone for the Wolverines of East Webster.
With it came an impressive 12-3 record that saw the team compete for the Class 2A North State Championship.
While East Webster may not have won the title, coach Doug Wilson could not be prouder of his team’s effort.

SMITH ON SPORTS: The element of surprise not good for Starkville teams

It was not a good weekend for Starkville teams on the football field over the weekend.
The element of surprise certainly worked against the Starkville Yellowjackets and the Mississippi State Bulldogs in big games Friday and Saturday.
Even though the possibility existed that SHS and MSU could lose against very good opponents, it was the way those schools lost that was unexpected.

OXFORD – Dan Mullen has gotten the best of Ole Miss the past five seasons.
The Mississippi State head coach won four of the five meetings in the Egg Bowl, and looked good doing it. His only loss was on the road in 2012.
