Volunteers beat Mustangs to end regular season

GREENWOOD – Starkville Academy quarterback Houston Clark found the right hole to run through on third down Friday night against Pillow Academy.
There were a couple of times in that situation where Clark was able to find the end zone with rushing touchdowns.

West Okibbeha falls in final game

MABEN – In the final chapter of the West Oktibbeha Timberwolves’ football history, they fell to the Nanih Waiya Warriors 34-0.
Donald Lee’s alma mater went out not with a bang, but a slow drubbing from the Warriors.
Head Coach Danny Crawford said he was sad to see this be the last game for the Timberwolves, but despite the outcome he was glad to see his players not quit.

Eupora wins shootout over West Tallahatchie

WEBB – The Eupora Eagles survived in their Class 2A first round game at West Tallahatchie Friday night by winning a 51-44 shootout.
It was the 10th win of the season for Eupora as it improved to 10-2.

Mattox, Jackets go for cross country state titles

Kate Mattox looks to make it three in a row today as the Starkville cross country teams line up for the Class 6A State Championships.
As a 8th grader, Mattox secured her first state title by claiming the Class 5A championship in 2012, then as a freshman, she continued the winning with the Class 6A title.

Yellowjackets open basketball season in West Point

It may be a tough way to open a season, but Kristie Williams welcomes a challenge for the Starkville Lady Yellowjackets.
In the final game of the West Point Classic tonight, the Lady Jackets will face the host West Point Lady Green Wave at 6 p.m.
Williams said the rivalry factor always makes the Starkville-West Point matchup interesting, especially to start the schedule.

SCS girls don't quit, but lose game

It may not have been the result that Starkville Christian School girls coach Mark Horstemeyer wanted on Friday, but the effort was to his liking.
Despite losing a 43-32 decision to Winona Christian at home, Horstemeyer said the Lady Cougars gave the kind of effort necessary.
