Three seniors take care of business for SHS

Change has been the trend for a trio of seniors at Starkville High.
After seeing multiple coaches who each brought a new game plan, it would have been easy for Colbey Rivers, Jared Ousley and Tyler Barnes to go with the flow.
That was not the case and as the Yellowjacket trio played their final regular season game Saturday night, they gave as much effort as they did on day one.

Local competition: Jackets claim win over neighboring Eagles

It was all about keeping it local on the diamond as the Starkville Yellowjackets hosted the Eupora Eagles on Senior night. 
Still there was no slack in the competition level with Eupora forcing the Jackets to earn every bit of their 6-2 victory.

Burrell's bat gets Starkville going against Louisville

The Starkville Yellowjackets were looking for that one big hit to get their offense going against the Louisville Wildcats on Saturday.
Ben Burrell was happy to be of assistance.
In the fourth inning with Starkville trailing Louisville 2-1, Burrell stepped to the plate and delivered a three-run triple to give his team a 4-2 lead.

SMITH ON SPORTS: SHS seniors see full day of baseball

It was a busy day for the Starkville High School seniors on the baseball field Saturday.
Colbey Rivers went the distance on the mound for the Yellowjackets in the first game of the day against Louisville and he had two hits offensively, while Tyler Barnes had an RBI double against the Wildcats and scored a run. Jared Ousley was running down fly ball outs in right field.

Bulldogs improve on defensive side during scrimmage

Mississippi State's defense made sure their coordinator had some good things to talk about this week.
After struggling in the first scrimmage of the spring last week, first-year defensive coordinator Manny Diaz called the performance a "butt kicking" for his defense against the Bulldog offense.
The defense played better in the second scrimmage of the spring at Davis Wade Stadium on Saturday.

MSU announces contract extension for Vic Schaefer

Coach Vic Schaefer has built something special with the Mississippi State women's basketball program.
He will continue building the Bulldogs.
On Friday, MSU Athletic Director Scott Stricklin announced a four-year contract extension for Schaefer.

Eupora's Pittman presented Lindy Callahan award

EUPORA – Trey Pittman is a name most often associated with Eupora sports.
The Eagle senior does not stop there and earlier this month he was recognized as one of 16 Lindy Callahan Scholar-Athletes for his success off the field.

MSU set for second football scrimmage of spring

It was all about the offense in the first spring scrimmage for Mississippi State last Friday.
The Bulldog offense scored eight touchdowns, and ran up and down the field against the defense.
MSU's defense was able to get a touchdown in the form of a Grant Harris 62-yard interception return for a score, but that was it.

Sense of urgency: Bulldogs look to put forth best effort against Aggies

Mississippi State has 18 Southeastern Conference games remaining this season, and the Bulldogs will have to perform well in all 18 to have a chance at the postseason.
According to Warren Nolan, the Bulldogs are ranked No. 118 in the RPI standings, last in the league. However, MSU is third in the SEC West, just 4 1/2 games behind Texas A&M.

Starkville Academy splits pair of baseball games at Heritage Academy

COLUMBUS – The Starkville Academy Volunteers bounced back from a one-run loss in game one of a doubleheader against the rival Heritage Academy Patriots and won 3-1 in the second game.
With the split, Starkville Academy's record stands at 18-4.
