Starkville Americans fall to Newton County

Things just "didn't bounce" the right way for the Starkville American All-Star team.
After fighting right until the end the Americans dropped a 17-9 game to Newton County in game two of the Dizzy Dean South State Tournament.

Mathiston defeats Starkville Americans

Two of the youngest teams at the Dizzy Dean 7-year-old South State Tournament met at McKee Park Friday afternoon.
In a matchup of 6-year-old All-Star teams, Mathiston was able to generate enough offense to take a 11-3 win.
"It's a very good little team," Mathiston coach Darrell Fason said about his team. "It's a 6U team. My guys held tough and we're in it to win it."

Eupora splits pair of games on first day of 7 State

The Dizzy Dean 7-year-old South State Tournament started off well for the Eupora All-Stars with a walk-off victory over Newton County, but the day didn't end well because of a loss to Louisville at McKee Park.
In the first game, Eupora out-slugged Newton County 22-21 with a six-run sixth inning.
Eupora won when Eli Clarke scored the winning run on a base hit by Jacob Surma.

Starkville's 9-year-olds win third-straight game

BATESVILLE – Wins kept coming for the Starkville 9-year-old All-Stars as they took their third game of the Dizzy Dean State Tournament 15-5 over Southaven.
Starkville jumped out to an early lead in with four runs in the first inning.
Southaven roared back with five runs in the third to claim a one-run advantage 5-4.

MSU's Sword working to move back to point

Craig Sword has proved he can play in the Southeastern Conference with his ability to get to the rim.
But this summer, the Mississippi State junior guard has been working on another facet of his game – his shot.
Sword's game has been built around slashing and attacking the rim, but if he adds a good jump shot, he could go to the next level.

Taking field on the Fourth: Starkville American anxious to compete against older teams

Age will not be an issue for coach Jeff Overstreet and the Starkville American All-Stars.
Even though American is an all 6-year-old team playing against 7-year-old squads at the Dizzy Dean South State Tournament this weekend, Overstreet said his players are showing they have what it takes to have success.

MSU hires Dillon to coaching staff

Mississippi State has hired Zach Dillon as coordinator of baseball camps and a volunteer assistant coach the athletic department announced Thursday afternoon.
Dillon replaces Jake Wells who was hired as an assistant coach at Louisiana Tech earlier this summer. Along with his camp duties, Dillon will also coach first base during the spring. 

Watching sports, enjoying freedom came with a cost

As you wake up today, you may notice that there is a good bit going on in the sports world.
There is the Wimbledon men's semifinals matches, two FIFA World Cup quarterfinal games, golf from The Greenbrier, which I will be enjoying, and a full slate of Major League Baseball with a couple of those games on television, another sport that will have my interest.

Carlisle excited about event: Dizzy Dean 7-year-old South State to bring quality teams to Starkville

Dizzy Dean 7-year-old South State Tournament director Randy Carlisle has been busy getting McKee Park ready for the event that takes place beginning Friday in Starkville.
During that time, he has been able to catch a glimpse of some of the teams that will be participating in the tournament.
Carlisle believes if people will come to check out some of the action, they will be impressed.
