THE EMCC DEFENSE: Lions avoid big plays for success

SCOOBA – The East Mississippi Community College Lions have a simple philosophy on defense.
Justin Lucas said the Lions concentrate on "stopping the run" and "don't get beat deep."
There hasn't been many times this season where EMCC has been hurt in either area.

MSU women shoot well from long range to pile up points

Points tend to come quickly in basketball when a team is successfully making 3-point field goals.
That was the case Tuesday night for the Mississippi State women.
The No. 23 Bulldogs used that shooting touch and tough play in the second half to their advantage as they knocked off visiting North Dakota State 109-58.

Never in my wildest imagination did I think that when I watched the UAB Blazers play against the Mississippi State Bulldogs in football this season that it would be the last time.
Back in September, our beat writer Ben Wait was out of town participating in his brother's wedding and I had the opportunity to cover the game between the Bulldogs and Blazers.

MSU's McDonald recognized for play

Mississippi State golfer Ally McDonald continues to receive recognition for her good play on the golf course.
It was announced Tuesday that she was selected to the All-Amateur second team by Global Golf Post. The Fulton native will be featured in the December issue.

Morris, SCS girls respond for victory

Starkville Christian School girls coach Mark Horstemeyer had a pat on the head for Charity Morris when she came out with 33 seconds left of Tuesday night's game against Kemper Academy.
It was much deserved.
Morris led the Lady Cougars with 18 points and performed well in a key stretch of the third quarter as her team won a 54-39 decision over the Lady Rams.

CLINTON – The Junction, Mississippi State's tailgate area outside of Davis Wade Stadium, creates a buzz usually seven Saturdays in the fall.
Many people fill the small, compact area to get ready for a Bulldog football game, then Davis Wade becomes a mecca for three hours for loyal fans to cheer on their team.

Mississippi State volleyball coach Jenny Hazelwood will not return to her post next season, the school announced Monday.
She will be reassigned to an administrative position within the athletic department.

Mullen, Bulldogs continue to strive for championships

Dan Mullen has been adamant about winning a championship at Mississippi State since he took over the program in 2009.
Things were looking good for Mullen and the Bulldogs this season. They started the season 9-0, but lost to Alabama on the road. Even after that loss, MSU was still in a position to compete for a championship.
