MSU's Smith recognized by the SEC

Mississippi State senior defensive end Preston Smith was selected as the Southeastern Conference Defensive Lineman of the Week, as announced on the SEC Network Monday night.
Smith was pivotal in MSU's 49-0 shutout of Southern Miss to open the season on Saturday.

Lady Vols hope third time charm on softball field against Heritage

There is a saying that the third time is a charm. 
Kayla Mosley is hoping that is the case today when the Starkville Academy Lady Volunteers take the softball field against visiting Heritage Academy.
In the previous two times the teams have met, the Lady Patriots have claimed both games, but having learned from past mistakes Mosley is planning for a better showing by SA.

Lady Jackets finish fourth at cross country meet

MEMPHIS – The Starkville Lady Yellowjackets used the momentum of Kate Mattox's first-place finish to come in fourth as a team at the Brooks Twilight Memphis Cross Country meet on Saturday.
Mattox won the 5K with a time of 18:37.

Handa Cup at Old Waverly nears

Old Waverly Golf Club in West Point is most well known as the site of the 1999 United State's Women's Open where Juli Inkster won her first of two U.S. Open titles.
The golf course is also the new home to the Mississippi State golf teams. A new practice area and club house is in the process of being built.

Impressive Bulldogs set to work out kinks

Mississippi State looked impressive in its football opener against Southern Miss.
The Bulldogs shut out the Golden Eagles 49-0 Saturday night, which was the first shutout for the Bulldog defense since a 17-0 win over South Carolina in 1999.

The Bulldogs weren't good hosts as they beat in-state foe Southern Mississippi 49-0 in newly renovated Davis Wade Stadium, which held a record crowd of 61,889 in the first contest between the two schools since 1990.
