Lead slips away for MSU: Ole Miss rallies to defeat rival at home

OXFORD – The Mississippi State Bulldogs led for most of the game.
They even had a 13-point lead in the second half.
It wasn't enough though.
The Bulldogs faltered down the stretch and lost a 79-73 contest to in-state rival Ole Miss at Tad Smith Coliseum Wednesday night.

Bulldogs, Rebs meet for 251st time on court

OXFORD – Mississippi State and Ole Miss have met more times in basketball than any of the other Southeastern Conference schools.
The teams met for the 251st time on Wednesday, and this one went to the Rebels with a 79-73 victory.
The Bulldogs still lead the series 141-110.

It's not about revenge tonight for the Mississippi State Bulldogs.
Even though the Vanderbilt Commodores ended MSU's 18-game winning streak to start the season with a 78-62 win in Nashville, Tenn., head coach Vic Schaefer said it's not an emphasis for the Bulldogs to get back at the Commodores, but it's about making sure they do what's necessary to get a win at home.

Victoria Vivians was known for her scoring at Scott Central High School.
In setting the all-time mark in Mississippi high school history with 5,745 points, scoring was pretty easy for Vivians to accomplish.
Since making the transition to life in the Southeastern Conference at Mississippi State, Vivians has learned the value of playing good defense as well.

ACKERMAN – Action started early during the Bullock Toyota Mid-Mississippi Classic at Choctaw County High School and from the first tip there was no slack in quality competition.
“Overall, it was a good tournament full of close games and good crowds,” Choctaw County coach Gary Beals said. “It was a good turnout to see some good basketball.”
