2011 Arts Festival poster unveiled

October 13, 2010

In a Tuesday ceremony in the Cotton District, Starkville Area Arts Council leaders unveiled the poster for the 2011 Cotton District Arts Festival.
The original artwork was created by local artist Patricia Collins, who has taught third, fourth and fifth grade art at Henderson Ward Stewart Elementary for 20 years and continues to work for the Starkville School District
Throughout her time at Ward-Stewart, Collins has painted an array of murals and designed many backdrops for various musicals and plays.
Originally from Ackerman, Collins is the daughter of Maxine McMinn Winfield and the late Mayor David A. Winfield, Jr. of Ackerman. She is a Mississippi State University alumna.
The winning poster design was announced Tuesday after a competition held by the Arts Council involving artists from around the area.
The 2011 festival is slated to take place on April 23, 2011, in the historic Cotton District. The festival host a broad variety of art villages featuring a variety of artisans representing the finest selections in their mediums, international culture, a 5K run, choral and theatrical performances as well as art and food competitions. Special children’s activities and a pet parade are also planned.
Festival goers will enjoy delectable cuisine from local chefs and live music stages set up throughout the Cotton District.
This year will mark the 16th year for the Cotton District Arts Festival, which is made possible by grants from the Mississippi Arts Commission, the Greater Starkville Development Partnership, and the Starkville community.
