Adopt a pet today

September 12, 2010

For the Daily News

Duke is a wonderful one year old yellow lab who is looking for his forever family.
Duke was surrendered by his previous person because they were moving and would not take him with them.
Duke has been well trained and will sit for a treat.
He is very loving and social; he likes to walk around the shelter with us when we are working.
Duke gets along well with other dogs and pays no attention to cats (of course he thinks dogs rule!).
Duke is current on his shots and wormer, but will need to be neutered.
Come by and visit Duke today and possibly add a warm and playful dog to your family.
As all good things must come to an end, so has our lowered adoption fees. Beginning September 11, our adoption fee will go back to the regular price of $40 for a spay/neutered animal.
Oktibbeha County Humane Society/Starkville Animal Shelter would like to thank everyone for making our reduced price adoption event such a great success.
The shelter is asking for donations for our Second Chance fund, formerly known as the heartworm treatment fund.
Anyone wanting to make a difference in the life of a lost or abandoned dog or cat at our humane society, please consider donating to our Second Chance fund.
The dogs and cats who are treated with money from this fund are screened and are very adoptable animals. Donations to this fund will give these animals a "second chance" to find their forever family.
Please send your donations to: OCHS Second Chance Fund, P. O. Box 297, Starkville, Mississippi 39760.
The Starkville Animal Shelter is located at 510 Industrial Park Road in Starkville.
The shelter is open weekdays from 10 a.m. until 5 p.m. Monday through Friday and on Saturdays from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m.
For spay/neutered animals, the adoption fee is $40.
This fee includes the animals first round of shots, wormer and their spay/neuter.
OCHS is currently looking for foster families for special situations, including fosters for our accepted Homeward Bound puppies and dogs.
If you are interested, please contact Anita Howard, oktcohumane@bellsouth.net.
The shelter is currently seeking fosters for our September Homeward Bound trip.
OCHS is also looking for dedicated volunteers! To find out how you can help, please contact Michele Anderson, Volunteer Coordinator, at ochsvolunteer@bellsouth.net.
There is something for almost everyone who wants to make a difference in the lives of our animals.
For details or an application regarding the OCHS low cost spay/neuter program, "PET PALS," call the Humane Society at (662) 338-9093 or visit the website at http://www.msstate.edu/org/humane or e-mail us at oktcohumane@bellsouth.net.
The shelter is always in need of supplies.
Some of the shelter's primary needs are: dog collars and leashes, paper towels, puppy food, dog food, kitten food, cat food, dog and cat toys, dog and cat treats, disposable gloves.
For a complete listing of the shelter needs please visit the OCHS website.
OCHS would like to encourage you to spay or neuter your pet to help control the pet population.
The shelter is still collecting clean aluminum cans.
For your convenience, you can either drop them off at the shelter or take them directly to recycling.
If you elect to take them to recycling, please let them know to add them to the Oktibbeha County Humane Society ticket so that we can get credit!
Oktibbeha County Humane Society is a United Way Agency.
