Being chosen as Mississippi State’s 2010 Homecoming Queen is an honor Anne Elise Parks takes very seriously.
“I want to represent this university with class, humility, honor and pride,” Parks said.
For Parks, she knows representing MSU will be easy because of the diversity in the campus and its students.
“Mississippi State is such a rare place and I would be willing to say there is no nicer and more hospitable of a campus anywhere. I’m always impressed with how loyal our alumni and students are,” Parks said.”We handle ourselves with dignity and remain down-to-earth. I would love nothing more than to represent a glimpse of that.”
Parks is a broadcast meteorology major from New Albany. She is a member of Delta Gamma sorority — an organization she says has made an impact that she’ll cherish for the rest of her life.
“Being a member of my sorority has enriched my college experience in ways I never imagined. I have found my very best friends here, and I know they will be the people I turn to the rest of my life.” Parks says.
Parks has been involved with MSU Alumni Delegates, Diamond Girls, Shackouls Honors College, Order of Omega, Phi Kappa Phi Honor Society, Lambda Sigma Honor Society, Alpha Lambda Delta Honor Society, Mortar Board Honor Society, Freshman Forum, Campus Crusade for Christ, Intramural softball, 2008 Greek New Member of the year, 2008 Sophomore Homecoming Maid, President’s List, MSU Great Plains Storm Chase Team, and was a beauty in the Miss Maroon & White all four years of college.
Parks knows she would not be where she is today without the help of her family and God, and for that, she will always be grateful for both.
“My family is at the core of who I am. They deserve many thanks for their support, love and guidance throughout my life. God has been so good in giving me an amazing family. He really is the one who deserves all my thanks and praise; I don’t deserve a thing. Thankfully, I serve a God who is gracious regardless,” Parks says.
Parks hopes to use her major in broadcast meteorology to begin the next step in her life.
“After graduation, I hope to work for a local news affiliate in a southeastern news market as their broadcast meteorologist. My dream job would be to work for Fox News as their meteorologist, and maybe even anchor on the side,” Parks says.
