Miss Maroon and White pageant set for Oct. 15

Mississippi State women will compete for the title of Miss Maroon and White next week.
The annual pageant, sponsored by the Campus Activities Board, will be held at 7 p.m. Oct. 15 in Bettersworth Auditorium in Lee Hall.
The Miss Maroon and White Pageant has been a staple at MSU since it began in 2003. This year, there are more than 40 young women competing for the crown.
Keri McMillin, the 2010 Mrs. Mississippi, will emcee the pageant, along with assistance from the reigning Miss Maroon and White, Mary Margaret Roark.
The pageant consists of three rounds — two beauty-based and the final round an on-stage question. The first stage round score is also combined with an interview score. All contestants will participate in the interview process earlier in the day.
Tickets are $8 and are available for purchase in advance at Colvard Student Union, Suite 300, or at the door the night of the pageant.

Poetry/Rap Slam to feature MSU students

The Campus Activities Board will host the “Mama Said, ‘Knock Your Out!’” Poetry/Rap slam at 7:30 p.m. Oct. 19 in the Dawghouse of the Colvard Student Union.
The Slam will allow students to display their talents through the use of poetry and rap, competing against each other in two different genres of word battle. The winner from each battle will take the crown as the 2010 Poetry/Rap Slam champion.
Students interested in competing in the Poetry/Rap Slam should pick up an application at Suite 300 in the Colvard Student Union and are required to submit a copy of their lyrics.
All interested performers must attend a preliminary audition at 6:30 p.m. today. Information on the audition location can be obtained at the CAB office.
Throughout several semesters, the Coffeehouse Committee’s poetry slam has become a major event and is constantly expanding.
The “Mama Said, ‘Knock You Out!” Poetry/Rap Slam aims to reach more students on campus.
The event will include free coffee and desserts. For more information about this event, call 325-2930 or visit the CAB website at http://www.msstate.edu/org/cab.
