Cunningham to use FCA camp to reach area youth

It’s the interest of former Mississippi State basketball player Tyson Cunningham to sharpen young boys in body, mind and soul.

That’s where the Strong (2 Timothy 4:7) Fellowship of Christian Athletes Camps 2018 comes in.

The event takes place in Columbus on July 13-14 and Cunningham hopes it will be a help to those that attend.

“It’s a first-year thing I’m doing for the area and for high school boys to see how it goes,” Cunningham said. “I think it’s going to be a great success.”

The tournament field will be open to the first 24 teams to register and games will be 15 minutes on four courts. The venue will be the Mississippi University for Women basketball arena. There will be pool play on the first day, then a double-elimination format for the second day.

To register, provide the list of four players (there are only four players to a team) and make sure to include one team contact.

On the night of July 14, there will be a worship service at the New Beginning Full Gospel Baptist Church. The singers will be Cunningham and the Sounds of Judah, while speaking will be Minister Kevin McCrary.
Cunningham said it should be two good days of basketball and sharing faith.

“It’s just providing these high school guys an opportunity to compete of course, but to also give them the chance to be exposed to the gospel of Jesus,” Cunningham said. “It’s a great opportunity to use FCA and use the platform of sports to reach our coaches and athletes with the gospel of Jesus.”
