Mr. and Mrs. Erie H. Staggers, III, of Starkville, are happy to announce the engagement and upcoming wedding of their daughter, Whitney Lee Staggers, to William Michael Thompson, II, son of Mr. and Mrs. William Michael Thompson of Madison.
The bride-elect is the granddaughter of Harolyn Sanders Staggers and the late Erie H. Staggers, Jr. of Starkville, the late Charles Eric Manning and the late Joyce McGraw Manning.
She is a 2002 honors graduate of Starkville High School and a 2006 graduate of Mississippi State University with a bachelor of arts degree in communication with an emphasis in public relations. She is also a 2008 cum laude graduate of Mississippi State University with a masterâ€™s art degree in teaching.
While at MSU, she was a member of Phi Mu Sorority and she served as a Diamond Girl for the MSU baseball team.
She is currently employed with Mississippi Delta Community College at a part-time speech instructor and part-time admissions support.
The prospective groom is the grandson of Nell McNeil Werkeiser and the late Dr. Edwin B. Werkeiser of Madison, and Mary Stigler Thompson and the late Robert L. Thompson.
He is a 2001 graduate of Manchester Academy and a 2005 cum laude graduate of of Mississippi State University with a bachelor of science degree in Agricultural business. He is also a 2007 cum laude graduate of Mississippi State University with a master of science in Agricultural Economics.
While at MSU, he was a member of Sigma Alpha Epsilon fraternity, received the Wall Street Journal 2005 Student Achievement Award for Mississippi State University.
He is a partner in his familyâ€™s farming operation in Holmes County.
The couple will be married on December 4, 2010 at 5:30 p.m. in Starkville at First United Methodist Church. Rev. Stacey Parvin Fuller, pastor of Whitehall UMC, will officiate the double-ring ceremony. A reception will follow at Old Waverly Golf Club in West Point.
