Top-selling country music group Diamond Rio will be the headlining act for this year’s Sturgis South Motorcycle Rally, joining an entertainment lineup organizers say has a broad appeal.
All concerts will be held at Diane Jackson Memorial Park, also known as City Park.
Kicking things off Thursday— the first night of the Rally — will be a performance by the Midnight Riders, an Allman Brothers tribute band, beginning at 8 p.m.
Friday’s lineup will feature concerts by Trademark, a party band playing country, rock and hip-hop music, at 8 p.m. and Brian Howe, former lead singer of Bad Company, at 10:30 p.m.
Saturday’s lineup will close out the Rally concert performances with Willy Waggs, a band playing a variety of country and classic rock, at 6 p.m.; Crossin Dixon, a Mississippi-based up-and-coming country rock band, at 8 p.m.; and Diamond Rio, which has notched multiple Country Music Association awards and 13 Grammy Award nominations, at 10:30 p.m.
Rally-goers will have a choice in how they attend the various Rally concerts, said Donny Hanson, president of the Rally Board.
“One change this year is that we are offering nightly entertainment passes for the people that just want to come to the concerts. These passes are only available on the day of the show after 6 p.m. each day,” Hanson said.
Anyone that pre-registered for the Rally and paid the $40-per-person registration fee will receive an armband that is good for all Rally events and concerts, Hanson said. Rally-goers can still register and pay the $40 for the weekend pass armband at the registration tents, Hanson said.
The nightly entertainment passes will cost as follows:
• Thursday — $20 per person; $15 for college students with a valid student identification card.
• Friday — $20 per person.
• Saturday — $25 per person.
The nightly entertainment passes are only available at the gate to City Park, Hanson said.
