The funeral for Gorden E. Thompson is scheduled for at 10 a.m. Thursday at New Hope Baptist Church with burial will be in New Hope Baptist Church Cemetery.
The Rev. Nap Clark and Bro. David Fedrick will conduct the service.Â
Visitation for Mr. Thompson is scheduled for today from 1 to 8 p.m. at New Hope Baptist Church in Starkville.Â
Mr. Thompson, 87, passed away on Monday, Aug. 9, 2010 at his home in Starkville.
He worked as a mechanic for Millsaps Pontiac and Buick and a tow truck driver for 48 years and was owner of Shady Grove Trailer Park I and II.Â He was a member of New Hope Baptist Church where he was a deacon.Â
He was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II and served on the U.S.S. Capricornus AKA-57 and was a member of the American Legion.
He was preceded in death by his first wife of 52 years, Louise Tomlinson Thompson; a son, Everette Thompson; parents, Henry C. and Maggie Scoggins Thompson; brothers, Henry A. Thompson and wife, Marjorie, W.D. Thompson and Felton Thompson; and two grandchildren, Sonny Thompson and Charlesy Collins.
He is survived by his wife Louise Wilson White Thompson of Starkville; daughters, Pat (Dan) Jackson, Nelda (Joe) Brazeale, Linda Blankenship, all of Starkville, Faye Crouch of Jackson, Tenn., and Karon (Lee) Stanford of Water Valley; sons, Homer (Glenda) Thompson, Ed Thompson, Buddy (Susan) Thompson, all of Starkville, and Keith White of Southaven, MS and Michael (Melanie) White of Senatobia; 23 grandchildren and 20 great-grandchildren.
Memorial donations may be made to the Kidney or Lung Association, the New Hope Baptist Church Building Fund, or to the Gideonâ€™s.
