The Greater Starkville Development Partnership was recently honored for the work it does to keep the streets of Starkville clean.

The GSDP was awarded the Circle of Excellence as a Keep Mississippi Beautiful affiliate, along with within first place in the government category for its efforts through the annual Get Swept Up event, which features volunteers cleaning up downtown

GSDP Director of Tourism Jennifer Prather said having a clean and beautiful city is paramount to creating a place where people want to be.

“I am so proud of the unified effort that our community puts forth for us to be able to put our best foot forward for residents and visitors alike and to be recognized is such an honor,” Prather said.

Created in 1988 by the state Legislature, Keep Mississippi Beautiful works to inspire and educate Mississippians to improve their communities by preventing litter, promoting recycling and beautification.

The statewide organization is a certified state affiliate of Keep America Beautiful Inc., the nation’s largest community improvement organization, and leads a network of about three-dozen certified local affiliates across the state.
