Hugh Fancher â€śShawbyâ€ť Shaw, 85, of Sturgis, died Saturday, July 31, 2010, at North Mississippi Medical Center in Tupelo.
Visitation will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. today at Coleman Funeral Home of Ackerman, which is handling the arrangements, and from 9 a.m to service time Tuesday, Aug. 3, at Sturgis Baptist Church.
The funeral will begin at 10 a.m. Tuesday at Sturgis Baptist, with burial following at Pleasant Hill Cemetery south of Sturgis.
The Revs. Steve Lammons, Halton Davis and Russell Mord will officiate.
Mr. Shaw served in the U.S. Navy during World War II aboard the U.S.S. Custard. He also served two terms on the Oktibbeha County Board of Supervisors. He was retired from the Agronomy Department at Mississippi State University.
He is preceded in death by his wife of 63 years, Mary Lee Dearing Shaw, who died in August 2005. He is also preceded in death by his son-in-law, Danny Gregory.
Mr. Shaw is survived by a son, â€śTimmyâ€ť Shaw and his wife, Linda, of Sturgis; his daughters, Kay Shaw McPherson and her husband, Ben, of Brandon and Nancy Shaw Gregory of Sturgis; a sister, Mary Lou Shaw Kimmel of Tupelo; one brother, Sidney Shaw of Sturgis; and four grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers include Bernie White, Jerry Ferguson, Jerry Ray, Buddy Miller, Eddie McGinnis, Greg Wall, Ernest Oswalt and Carl Livingston. Honorary pallbearers include Vance Watson and Jim Ray.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to the Pleasant Hill Cemetery Fund, the Baptist Childrenâ€™s Village or French Camp Academy.
