Lady Volunteers finish tourney on good note

COLUMBUS – The Starkville Academy Lady Volunteers finished the Heritage Academy Tournament on a positive note by defeating Carroll Academy 71-31 Thursday afternoon.
After losing their first two games of the tournament, the Lady Volunteers recorded an easy victory.
"It was a good game where everyone was able to get quality minutes and everyone scored," Starkville Academy coach Glenn Schmidt said. "We were able to finish the week strong."
The Lady Vols took a 16-9 lead after the first quarter and increased the margin to 32-15 by halftime.
Freshman Sallie Kate Richardson had a double-double for SA with 18 points and 13 rebounds. She also added six blocked shots.
Also scoring in double digits for the Lady Vols were Nora Kathryn Carroll with 16 points, Anna Lea Little with 11 points and Julianne Jackson with 10 points.
Haley Liddell led Carroll Academy with 13 points.
The next action for the varsity Starkville Academy teams will be Thursday, Nov. 4 at home against Lamar School. Junior high action begins at 4 p.m.
The junior high teams are also in action Tuesday at home against Ackerman. The night will be the debut of the 7th grade boys and girls teams, starting at 4 p.m.
