Missed chances cost Ackerman in 26-6 loss

September 4, 2010

BRUCE – Ackerman had five red zone opportunities, but scored just once in a 26-6 loss at Bruce.
"If we could score on all those chances we missed, then we have a chance to win the ballgame," said Ackerman head coach Adam Dillinger. "But we just couldn't get it done down close."
Even in defeat, Dillinger says his offense showed signs of life after going the season's first two games without scoring a point in regulation.
"We were able to move the ball," said Dillinger. "We did a lot better job in that regard, we just couldn't score. We've just got to stop shooting ourselves in the foot."
A strong performance from the returning John Cummings breathed life into the Indians' offensive attack. The athletic Cummings, who missed the season's first two weeks due to school-related issues, played multiple positions in his first game back.
The loss drops Ackerman, the defending Class 2A North champions, to 1-2.
"We battled," said Dillinger. "You don't ever like losing, but I think it's a loss that we can gain a lot from. We've just got to come in next week and work. Our kids are showing a lot of grit and I'm proud with the way they played."
Ackerman travels to Houston next Friday to battle the Hilltoppers.
"We've got to find a way to win," said Dillinger. "When we get an opportunity to score, we need to score. We've got to make the most of our opportunities."
