The gods of Olympus will make an appearance in the Greensboro Street neighborhood this Friday night as the Starkville Central Neighborhood Foundation (SCNF) presents “Percy Jackson and the Olympians: The Lightning Thief” in its Movies on the Green series this Saturday night.
The movie will be shown on the “green” of Armstrong Middle School and will begin at sunset or about 7:30 p.m.
When his lightning bolt is stolen, Zeus accuses Poseidon’s son, Percy Jackson, and gives 14 days to Poseidon to return his lightning bolt; otherwise he will initiate a war against his brother.Â
But Percy has no idea that he is a demigod and he lives a miserable life with his mom and abusive stepfather. Zeus gives Percy 14 days to give back his lightning bolt.
But then his mother is kidnapped by Hades, the god of the underworld, who also wants the lightning bolt to rule over the gods. So, Percy goes after Hades to convince him he doesn’t have the lightning bolt and to get his mother back. Percy is accompanied by two friends, Annabeth, the beautiful daughter of Athena, the goddess of wisdom, and Grover, a satyr (half-human half-goat), on his quest and battles with the wrath of Medusa, many-headed dragons, minotaur, Hades, Vegas and many more evils.
The Starkville Central Neighborhood Foundation (SCNF) is a membership-based organization that encourages people to live, work, and play in the historic neighborhoods of central Starkville.Â
“Movies on the Green” is co-sponsored by Armstrong Middle School, Video Magic 1 and Metrocast. Those attending are encouraged to bring their own picnic meals and lawn chairs.
