MSU senior sees success with seashell jewelry creations

September 15, 2010

Mississippi State student Anne Taylor Duease never would have thought her love of seashells would somehow become a trademark.
“I have always been fascinated by natural beauty and anything organic, hence the use of seashells, wood and pearls. Since I was a child I have always collected seashells and one day I discovered a way to put them to use by wearing them,” Duease says.
Duease was on vacation in Seaside, Fla., in 2007 when her creations were looked at as a business when a local store owner wanted to put Duease’s rings in her store.
“Immediately I said, ‘yes’ and went home anxiously to get a collection of rings made and ready to ship to Florida,” she said.
That same store, La Vie Este Belle, still carries Duease’s Adonis Shell Rings line today.
Before long Duease was in California where her jewelry was getting looked at and purchased by everyone, including celebrities.
“I have sold to celebrities like Lindsay Lohan, Kristin Cavallari, Sela Ward, Denise Richards, Tori Spelling, Adrianna Lima, AnnaLynne McCord, Giuliana Rancic and many more,” Duease said.
Currently, 11 stores carry Duease’s jewelry line and her time is spent balancing out school and work, but to Duease, it’s something she’ll love to balance.
“Being a full-time student and a business owner at the age of 21 is not the easiest thing in the world, but if I must have a problem, I can’t think of a better one to have. Work is play for me and I love every second of it,” Duease says.
Duease is a graduate at Madison-Ridgeland Academy and is currently a senior at Mississippi State.
