Pilkington receives another preseason honor with baseball Bulldogs

The preseason awards continue to roll in for Mississippi State baseball’s Konnor Pilkington.

The junior left-handed pitcher, once again expected to anchor MSU’s starting rotation this season, was selected as a second-team All-American by Baseball America on Monday. The honor is the fourth preseason All-American accolade for Pilkington so far. Pilkington has also been listed as a second teamer by Collegiate Baseball and Perfect Game, and was a third-team selection by D1 Baseball.

It should come as no surprise Pilkington is highly thought of coming into this year. Last season, he impressed as he posted a 3.08 earned run average and had an 8-5 record. He had a team-best 17 starts and 108 innings pitched.

As a result, Pilkington is currently projected by many to be a high pick in June’s Major League Baseball Draft.

“We have a tremendous amount of confidence in what we’re going to get every Friday night out of Konnor Pilkington,” MSU second-year head coach Andy Cannizaro said last week. “You’re talking about an innings-eating, workhorse kind of guy that has the chance to be a first-round pick in (the MLB Draft) in June.”

MSU on national TV nine times

Mississippi State baseball will play nine nationally-televised games in 2018 and will have 30 other games broadcast online via SEC Network+. In all, 39 of MSU’s 56 games this season will be broadcast in some form, including all 23 of State’s home games.

Mississippi State’s television schedule is highlighted by the return of the annual Governor’s Cup game to national TV. State’s annual battle against instate rival Ole Miss at Trustmark Park in Pearl will be televised at 6 p.m. on April 24.
