Pink Heals Tour events set Saturday
Some future firefighter could have a very special addition to his bedroom decor to take home Saturday night.
Members of the Starkville Fire Department have built a very special wooden fire truck bed — very similar to the toy fire truck on display at the Oktibbeha County Heritage Museum — to be raffled off as part of the fund-raising effort through the Pink Heals Tour event Saturday at Fire Station No. 1 on Lampkin Street.
“Are our firemen not unbelievable?” said Mel Thurlow, director of marketing and public relations at OCH Regional Medical Center. “They have built this awesome bed and will have the finishing touches on it in time to be auctioned off at the Pink Heals event Saturday. Wouldn’t this make a wonderful Christmas present for a young fireman-to-be?”
The Pink Heals Tour will stop in Starkville at 5 p.m. Saturday, but the fun begins at 7 a.m. with a 5K run/walk at the Starkville Sportsplex, then a family fun festival will be held at 4 p.m. at Fire Station No. 1.
The pink fire trucks and fun activities will be held from 4 to 7 p.m. Saturday at Fire Station No. 1. The Family Fun Festival will include inflatable jumpers, face painting, snow cones, pink fire helmets to be given away, balloons and more. Sparky, the SFD mascot, will also pay a visit to the festival.
Plus, there will be special presentations, performances and a ceremony for all cancer survivors attending to “sign the Pink fire trucks!”
The stop in Starkville will be the Pink Heals Tour’s first and only stop in Mississippi. The convoy of pink fire trucks will be here on Saturday, with all proceeds from the festivities going to the Center for Breast Health and Imaging’s Patient Assistance Fund.
This fund helps indigent and uninsured women in this area get the breast care services they need.
The special fire truck bed is not the only item to be raffled off as part of Saturday’s event. Raffle tickets are being sold for $5, and includes a chance to win one of the following prizes and more:
• Two tickets to the MSU-University of Kentucky football game
• 32-inch flat screen television.
• Six months of free cable television service.
• Spa package.
• Tanning packages.
