The 2018 Relay for Life of Oktibbeha County, "Cancer: Not Here, Not There, Not Anywhere!" will begin at 6 p.m. Friday at the Starkville Sportsplex.

Doors for the event will open at 5 p.m., and it will take place indoors at the Sportsplex in case of inclement weather. Relay for Life will last until at least 1 a.m., or "until the Cat in the Hat goes Home."

Adams said 26 teams are participating this year that held various fundraisers throughout the year, and Relay for Life is Oktibbeha County's largest annual fundraiser for the American Cancer Society.

The family-friendly event will feature different foods, live music, inflatable jumpers, a DJ, children's games and arts and crafts for sale, and proceeds will go to the American Cancer society for research and education.

"The American Cancer Society just started ground breaking in Jackson for families that need long-term housing while a patient or family member is going through treatment," Adams said. "That shows that this is effecting Mississippi."

This year's theme, "Cancer: Not Here, Not There, Not Anywhere!" is inspired by Dr. Suess.

"This is a family-friendly, community event, because cancer doesn't just effect one person, it effects everyone is some shape or form," Adams said.

While there will be vendors and fundraisers going on during Relay for Life, the event itself is free to attend.

"Come eat dinner, come play games, come shop and know that your money is going to a wonderful cause," she said.
