Research Park moving forward with facilities, expansion plans

October 16, 2010

The Thad Cochran Research, Technology and Economic Development Park will soon open its newest facility with plans for another building – plus expansion and a new entrance – on the drawing board, an official said.
Tenants will move into the new, 38,000-square-foot three-story multi-tenant building Dec. 1, said Marc McGee, director of Mississippi State University's Research and Technology Corp.
The tenants will be Camgian Microsystems, nCode and Spatial Information Solutions.
All three companies are expanding from a square-footage standpoint, McGee said.
The RTC, along with the university's Office of Technology Commercialization and Entrepreneurship Center, will be MSU-related units with offices in the new building.
The MSU components will all be located on the first floor, creating "an entrepreneurial environment," McGee said.
"Each office has a component of entrepreneurial development and we're all locating under one roof," he said.
The National Institute of Standards and Technology – a U.S. Department of Commerce agency – provided funding for the $9.2 million project.
The facility fills a gap of needed multi-tenant office space in the Research Park, McGee said.
Infrastructure for the approximate 45-acre Phase II of the Research Park is under design now by Pritchard Engineering, he said.
Plus, a second entrance to the park is near the end of the design phase, McGee said.
The road – a four-lane boulevard – will be located just to the west of the Rose Garden and will connect to the existing Research Boulevard. Existing facilities within the North Farm will not be disturbed by the new boulevard, he said.
Also, NIST will be the funding source for a second building under design which officials hope to have under construction by early 2011, McGee said.
The single-story building will house a new business incubator, the program for which the Entrepreneurship Center will manage, he said.
