SA gets first conference win at MRA

August 23, 2010

MADISON – Three Starkville Academy players had multiple hits to lead the Lady Volunteers past Madison-Ridgeland Academy 6-4 on Monday.
Megan Aucoin, Bailey Wofford, and Julianne Jackson each had two hits as part of a nine-hit SA attack.
Lady Vols head coach Jessica Dickens called Aucoin the night's "hitting star" with a clutch RBI in the fifth inning that helped keep SA on top.
Aucoin finished 2-for-3 with a single and a double.
Wofford was 2-for-4 with a single and a double.
Jackson had a pair of singles in four at-bats.
Jackson was also the winning pitcher for the Lady Vols.
Seventh-grader Karlie Lockhart started at third base for SA in place of the injured Shelby Marsh and played very strong defense, according to Dickens.
The win gives Starkville Academy (9-9, 1-2) its first conference win of the season.
"This game was big for us," said Dickens. "We were on the road, starting two seventh graders in the infield, but our older players showed great leadership and everything clicked and came together."
SA's Monday victory comes just two days after defeating MRA in the College Exposure Tournament at the Starkville Sportsplex.
The Vols finished 1-2 in that event, losing games to Copiah Academy and Jackson Prep.
Starkville Academy returns home today for a 4 p.m. contest against Hebron Christian.
Hebron defeated SA in Pheba earlier this season. The Lady Eagles have also been playing strong of late, going 3-0 in Saturday's College Exposure Tournament, outscoring their opponents by a combined score of 32-3.
Thursday, the Lady Vols travel to Winston Academy.
Conference play resumes next Monday when SA hosts Jackson Academy.
