SA softball shuts out Oak Hill 5-0

August 2, 2010

Kim Murrell/SDN Starkville Academy softball coach Jessica Dickens has led the Lady Vols to a 3-2 start through their first five games.

WEST POINT – Julianne Jackson is just five games into her Starkville Academy softball career, but she's sure making a name for herself.
Jackson's latest feat came Monday as the Starkville Christian transfer hurled a complete game, 5-0 shutout over Oak Hill.
Jackson surrendered just four hits, struck out three, and walked none as she blanked an opponent for the second time already this season.
On Saturday, the junior pitcher just missed a no-hitter in a 19-0 win over Heritage Academy.
"Julianne is just rising above every challenge," said SA head coach Jessica Dickens. "I couldn't ask for anything more out of her."
On Monday, however, Jackson's bat was just as impressive as her arm, going 3-for-4 at the plate with a pair of singles and a double.
Adding to the Lady Volunteers' offense, Megan Aucoin went 2-for-4 with with two RBIs.
Bailey Wofford, Mary Austin Barber, and Megan Picard all had doubles in the contest, helping SA earn a measure of revenge against the Lady Raiders.
Oak Hill defeated the Lady Vols 8-3 in the Heritage Invitational on Saturday.
"We're big rivals at everything, so it's good to come back from that loss and get a win," said Dickens.
Monday's victory improved SA to 3-2 in Dickens' first year as head coach.
The Lady Vols return to action today as they travel to Central Academy for a 4 p.m. game. Also this week, SA hits the road for games against Kemper Academy and Leake Academy before hosting their own tournament this weekend on the campus of Mississippi State.
"It's a busy week, but (Monday's win) gave us a good start," said Dickens. "Hopefully it can carry on."
