Several public meetings scheduled for this week

Numerous public meetings are scheduled this week in Starkville and Oktibbeha County.

Oktibbeha County School Board

The Oktibbeha County School District Board of Trustees will hold its regularly scheduled monthly meeting at 9 a.m. Monday at the district's central office at 800A Louisville Street.
Copies of the agenda will be available at the meeting.

Oktibbeha County Board of Supervisors

The Oktibbeha County Board of Supervisors will meet at 10 a.m. Tuesday in its meeting room on the second floor of the main county courthouse on Main Street at Douglas Conner Drive.
Copies of the agenda will be available at the meeting.

Starkville Board of Aldermen

The Starkville Board of Aldermen will meet at 5:30 p.m. Tuesday in the City Hall courtroom.
Items on the Board of Aldermen agenda include:
• A public appearance by Golden Triangle Planning and Development District executive director Rudy Johnson to discuss the planned construction project for his agency's senior adult services.
• A public hearing on the proposed ad valorem tax increase of .45 of a mill and the proposed 2010-2011 fiscal year budget, as well as discussion on both matters.
• A report from the board's ad hoc sign committee on recommended changes to the sign ordinance and discussion on setting a public hearing on the changes.
• Appointments to the Storm Water Hearing Board, the Tree Advisory Board and the Library Board of Trustees, the Starkville Housing Authority.
• Discussion on the proposed renaming of the Sanitation Department to the Environmental Services Department.
• Discussion on moving the landfill and landscape divisions of the Public Services Department to the Environmental Services Department.
• Discussion of a minimum standard for poverty level for the city and possible salary equity adjustments for city employees.
• A report from the Transportation Committee on possible amendments to the sidewalk ordinance.
The Board of Aldermen agenda is subject to amendment at the outset of Tuesday's meeting. Copies of the agenda are available for download from the city's website at http://www.cityofstarkville.org.

Starkville School Board

The Starkville School District Board of Trustees will meet at 6 p.m. Tuesday in its meeting room on the first floor of the Greensboro Center.
Items on the agenda include:
• A public appearance by Jessie Collier to address some concerns.
• A presentation by Kay Brocator on the Studio Schools 2010 Summer Camp results.
• A variety of monthly financial matters.
• Approval of an agreement to use Overstreet School as an alternative school.
• Approval of 2010-2011 fundraisers.
• Approval of 2010-2011 fees charged to students.
• A variety of staff recommendations, including hirings, resignations/terminations/retirements and changes of status.
