SHS volleyball keeps rolling

August 21, 2010

CLINTON – Starkville High's volleyball team has proven they're a force at home this season. Saturday proved they can be just as tough away from the Beehive.
Playing a pair of matches in Clinton, the Lady Jackets defeated both Provine and the hosting Lady Arrows in straight sets.
"It was a great day for our program," said Starkville head coach Lauren Love. "Just a great day to be a Yellowjacket. We're so proud of our team. Our student-athletes did great."
Against Provine, the Lady Jackets won both the first and second sets 25-9 before clinching the match with a 25-11 win in the third set.
Wheeler Richardson tallied 17 points, 13 assists, six aces, and two digs in the victory.
Elizabeth Scott notched 11 points, six kills, and four aces.
McKay Richardson had six points, five aces, and four kills.
Rebecca Myles had nine points, two aces and three kills.
In their second game, the Lady Jackets downed Clinton 25-21 in the first set, 25-19 in set two, and 25-15 in the third.
The win comes nearly a year after Clinton eliminated Starkville from the 2009 Class 6A playoffs.
In Saturday's tilt with the Lady Arrows, Wheeler Richardson recorded 14 assists, nine points, three aces, and four digs.
Scott tallied eight digs and five kills.
McKay Richardson had 12 points, six digs, five kills and three aces.
Priyanka Parajuli had 12 points and three digs.
Myles finished with five points and five digs, and Grace Drumheller had four digs.
"We're very proud of what we did, but the team remains focused," said Love. "Team communication was a big factor in both of our wins today."
Starkville (7-3) continues it's season on Tuesday with a 6:30 p.m. varsity match in Caledonia.
