Late in the first quarter at J.E. Logan Field on Friday night, Starkville Academy quarterback Houston Clark broke off a 43-yard touchdown run straight up the middle to put his Volunteers on top 7-0.
In a playoff home game, SA had all the momentum.
Unfortunately for the Vols, their opponents, the Simpson Academy Cougars, were not fazed. They had been in similar situations before.
Simpson Academy came back to score 29 unanswered points, ending Starkville Academy’s season as the Vols fell 29-14 in the second round of the Mississippi Association of Independent Schools Class AAA playoffs.
For more information on the Vols, see the story by Starkville Daily News sports writer Joel Coleman in Saturday's edition.
