The Mississippi Singing Churchmen will return to Starkville Tuesday and record the concert for an upcoming CD, organizers said in a statement.
The groupâs history of singing great choral music spans decades. Tuesdayâs appearance here is the groupâs first in the community in more than 15 years.
âThe group is comprised of men in church music from around our state who care deeply about the craft and art of music, and how it is used to praise our God,â organizers said in the statement, adding that their ages vary as much as their experience and education.
âSome men have years of experience, while others are just starting their careers. Some have multiple degrees while others have received that precious âon-the-job-trainingââ which delivers a great deal of education, organizers said. This conglomeration of men makes beautiful music, organizers said.
Under the direction of Dr. Milfred Valentine, an truly experienced choral technician and conductor, and with the assistance of David Young, the Mississippi State Baptist music specialist in orchestra, they will present music in various genres â all adapted for menâs voices.
From traditional hymn arrangements like âIt Is Well with My Soul,â to new jewels like âIn Christ Alone,â there is sure to be a song that will become audience favorites.
The tour itinerary includes First Baptist Church of Amory on Monday at 7 p.m.; First Baptist Church of Louisville on Tuesday at noon and First Baptist Church of Starkville on Tuesday at 7 p.m.
