Starkville Academy struggles offensively

August 21, 2010

The Starkville Academy Lady Volunteers found the going tough against Copiah Academy pitcher Megan Johnson and lost 8-0 in five innings to open the seventh annual College Exposure Tournament.
Johnson only allowed three hits and struck out seven in recording the shutout.
Starkville Academy coach Jessica Dickens was disappointed that the hitters couldn't do better against Johnson.
"We're just not hitting the ball like we need to," Dickens said.
The only hits the Lady Vols could get were one single each by Bailey Wofford, Julianne Jackson and Lauren Ware. Starkville Academy was held hitless by Johnson through the first three innings.
Copiah Academy scored two runs in the second inning, three in the third, two more in the fourth and one in the fifth as the eight-run mercy rule came into play.
The Lady Vols were scheduled to play two more games during the College Exposure Tournament, then travel to Madison-Ridgeland on Monday and host Hebron Christian on Tuesday.
