Starkville man arrested for statutory rape

A Starkville man is in jail after being arrested on Tuesday and charged with statutory rape.

The Starkville Police Department said in a press release on Wednesday officers arrested 21-year-old Shytraille Spruell on the felony warrant Tuesday.

According to court documents provided to the Starkville Daily News following a public records request, Spruell is accused of having sexual intercourse with the 15-year-old victim in a locker room at Starkville High School on or about Sept. 13.

Spruell is currently in the Oktibbeha County Jail with bond set at $10,000. He appeared in Starkville Municipal Court on Wednesday at 2 p.m.

If found guilty of statutory rape, Spruell could face up to 30 years in prison and/or a fine not to exceed $10,000.
