Student mugged while leaving campus

October 19, 2010

Mississippi State police are searching for a suspect in the reported mugging of a female student as she walked toward an off-campus apartment complex Tuesday afternoon.
The student was walking on a paved walkway leading from the parking areas north of Eckie's Pond toward the privately-owned Campus Trails apartment complex located east of campus when she was approached about 3:30 p.m. by male who grabbed her, threatened her with a weapon and robbed her before fleeing on foot, MSU officials said in a statement Tuesday night.
The victim reported the incident to campus police about 5 p.m., and an investigation is ongoing, said Dean of Students Thomas Bourgeois in the statement.
The suspect is described as a dark-skinned black male about 6 feet tall and weighing between 200 and 200 pounds.
