Coach Tony Minor strives to get young boys basketball players as much attention as possible.
The Under the Radar Hoops Classic in Atlanta, Georgia, will definitely help in that quest.
Minor will take his eighth, ninth and 10th grade Starkville Swish teams to Atlanta for competition where over 300 college coaches will be in attendance.
“We’re trying to get the guys recognition, where later on they will be remembered by some of these college coaches,” Minor said.
The Swish left the Golden Triangle area on Friday and will be competing in Atlanta today and Sunday. The eighth grade team is being coached by Minor, while the ninth grade squad is being coached by Tricky Jackson and the 10th grade group is being coached by Chad Altmyer.
Altmyer’s 10th grade team has a record of 25-3 record so far this summer and is one of the top junior teams in the rankings.
“We’ve played a lot of good teams and we beat some good teams,” Minor said about the 10th graders.
The Swish is based out of Starkville, but has player from Columbus and Louisville. There are players in the lower grades from as far away as Tupelo.
Minor likes broadening the opportunity for those who want to join the Swish teams.
“We’re trying to open things up for kids in the Golden Triangle,” Minor said.
