TEA Party to host judicial candidates

October 22, 2010

Three of the six candidates running for judge in the 16th Circuit Court District will be speaking at the monthly meeting of the Starkville TEA Party this Saturday
The TEA Party is meeting at Fellowship Baptist Church, located at 1491 Frye Road, from 3 to 4:30 p.m. In addition to speaking, the candidates will also take questions from the audience.
Starkville TEA Party organizers encourage voters from Oktibbeha, Lowndes, Clay and Noxubee counties to attend so they can make an informed and intelligent vote on Nov. 2.
Organizers said many people do not know that on Nov. 2, they will be voting on a third judge for the 16th Circuit Court district which includes Oktibbeha, Lowndes, Clay, and Noxubee counties.
The Legislature added this position in 2005 and set the election for this November.  The third judge must come from either Noxubee or Clay counties, but voters in all four counties will vote in the race and the elected judge will hear cases in all four counties.
Lee Colman, Bob Marshall, and Nebra Porter are candidates for election to that position, which is called position 3.  The three have been invited to speak at the meeting Saturday.
Porter declined and it is uncertain at press time if Coleman will be joining the meeting.
Also speaking at the event will be incumbent Judge Jim Kitchens, Lowndes County resident, and Oktibbeha County native William Starks, his opponent for Position 1.
Circuit Court Judge Lee Howard, who is unopposed for Position 2, will also be on the ballot Nov. 2.
