Vols lose final game of season

GREENWOOD – The Starkville Academy Volunteers ended their season on Friday night with a 35-14 loss at Pillow Academy.
The home-standing Mustangs scored the first three touchdowns with one in the first quarter, one in the second quarter and one in the third quarter before the Vols got a 5-yard scoring run from quarterback Kyle Henson in the third quarter.
Pillow closed the third quarter with another touchdown, then Starkville Academy opened the fourth quarter with a 40-yard scoring pass from Henson to Patrick Jones.
On the ensuing kickoff, the Mustangs took a 76-yard kickoff return to the end zone to close out the point production.
Henson closed out his Vols career by completing 4 of 9 pass attempts for 104 yards. He added 85 yards on the ground on 17 carries.
Ryan McKell had 39 yards rushing on seven attempts, while Colby Runnels caught one pass for 45 yards and Jones had his touchdown grab for 40 yards. McKell caught two passes for 19 yards.
Starkville Academy, which finished with a recordsof 3-8 overall, had 250 yards of total offense with 146 yards rushing to go along with Henson's passing numbers.
Pillow Academy had 367 yards of total offense with 267 yards coming on the ground and 100 yards through the air.
The Vols were led defensively by Angus Catchot, Ryan Mann and Stephen Robetson.
