Starkville Police Department detectives are seeking information from the public in an early Sunday morning shooting that took place on the Sudduth Elementary School property.
SPD officials were releasing few details of the incident and their investigation on Monday, but did confirm that three people were wounded in the incident and were treated at OCH Regional Medical Center and released Sunday morning.
SPD officials would not confirm the type of firearm used in the incident, nor would they release information on the victimsâ€™ identities, citing concerns for their safety in the aftermath of the incident.
The incident was reported shortly after 12 a.m. Sunday when one of the three victims flagged down SPD patrol officers near the school property.
The officers immediately called for OCH paramedics, police officials said.
The victims told police that the shooting occurred while they were skating on the paved areas around the Sudduth school building since there is little traffic there, police officials said.
The exact circumstances of the shooting itself remain under investigation, and SPD detectives are following multiple leads, officials said.
SPD officials did confirm on Monday that detectives are investigating multiple suspects in connection with the incident, but said they could not release further information because they were will still working to verify certain facts in the case.
Police did stress that while the incident occurred on the Sudduth property, no students, teachers or anyone connected with the school was involved.
