Winona claims 17-8 victory over Eupora

September 4, 2010

WINONA – Special teams miscues and other mistakes haunted Eupora Friday night in a 17-8 loss at Winona.
"We played decent on both sides of the ball and had a breakdown in the kicking game," said Eupora head coach Junior Graham.
Errors dug the Eagles a 14-0 hole before Lazerick Davis punched in a 1-yard touchdown run that closed the gap to 14-8.
In the fourth quarter, while punting, a wild Eupora snap on a punt attempt resulted in Winona recovering the ball before connecting on a late field goal to ice the game.
"Winona's got a good team," said Graham. "But I thought our guys really fought to the end. It's all about growing pains. Our lack of maturity at the quarterback position hurt us a little tonight, but (Jamal Roby) is going to get a lot better from it. He's growing."
The Eupora defense allowed Winona just 186 yards for the night.
The Eagles tallied 211 total offensive yards.
Davis led the Eagles offense with Davis' 24 carries for 89 yards and the touchdown.
Winona's Chief Brown had 17 carries for 101 yards.
The Eagles return home next week for a matchup with Bruce.
