ACKERMAN — Mrs. Margaret Jane Smith Weaver died May 18, 2012 at North Mississippi Medical Center in Tupelo.
Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Monday, May 21 at Ackerman Methodist Church.
Internment will follow in the Enon Cemetery in Ackerman.
Visitaation will be held 5-8 p.m. Sunday, May 20 at Coleman Funeral Home in Ackerman.
Coleman Funeral Home of Ackerman is in charge of all arrangements.
Smith was born in Choctaw County, Miss. on July 14, 1919. Her parents were Hugh Reed Smith and Clara Irving Smith. She attended Weir Elementary School before moving to Starkville with her family at age 12 where she joined the First Presbyterian Church.
She graduated from Starkville High School in 1936 and Mississippi State University with a degree in business in 1939. After graduation, she worked for the Mississippi Extension Service, the ROTC department, and the U.S. Department of Wildlife on the MSU campus.
She married Banks Weaver on May 18, 1950 and moved to Ackerman. She joined Ackerman Methodist Church with her husband. She taught children’s and youth Sunday School, Bible School and was a member of several church boards and committees. She was an independent insurance agent in her husband’s family business from 1953 until its sale in 1997.
She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband of 58 years.
She is survived by one son, Hugh Banks Weaver of Ackerman.
Memorials may be made to the Ackerman Methodist Church, French Camp Academy or Palmer Home for Children.
