TALLAHASSEE, Fla. â€“ Mississippi State shortstop Adam Frazier led off the eighth inning with a single to center field to continue his 13-game hitting streak that started May 12th during the second game of the Florida series.
Frazier is batting .500 during the streak, and he has hit safely in 52 of 62 games this year.
Palmeiro in attendance
Former Mississippi State standout and member of the Major League Baseball's 500 home run club was on hand for MSU's game against Samford.
He also stayed for the UAB and Florida State game where his former college coach and former Mississippi State head coach, Ron Polk, is a volunteer assistant.
Also, Palmeiro's son Patrick plays at UAB.
win streak ends
Mississippi State had won its last six games in the regional format.
The Bulldogs won three games in the 2007 Tallahassee regional and won three games in the 2011 Atlanta regional to advance both times to super regionals.
In 2007, MSU hosted Clemson in a super regional and advanced to Omaha, but fell to Florida in the 2011 super regional, winning one of three games in Gainesville.
Most home runs in a game
The Bulldogs pitching staff allowed four home runs Friday.
That is the most MSU has given up all year.
The most the Bulldogs had allowed this year was two and that was to Mercer on March 10 in Saturday's game.
First shutout in 34 games
The Bulldogs had not been shutout in the their last 34 regional or super regional games until Friday.
The last time came in the 2000 Starkville Regional when MSU lost 7-0 to Notre Dame.
State ended up beating the Irish in the next game to advance.
