East Oktibbeha faces very difficult schedule

June 7, 2012

The East Oktibbeha football team faces a tough schedule this fall.

The Titans only have four home games with rival West Oktibbeha, Ethel, Weir and Noxapater.

There have been talks of Weir consolidating with Ackerman; if that occurs, East Oktibbeha will be left with three home games and will have to scramble to add one more.

"It's going to be a rugged schedule," Titan head coach Randy Brooks said. "We are not very experienced. We are mostly a junior squad, but they have been stepping up in the weight room."

Some of those juniors include offensive tackle and defensive tackle Clayton Carr, quarterback Justin Williams and wide receiver Bryton Conley. There are also a couple of sophomores Brooks expects to step up with these tough schedules.

That includes defensive back and wide receiver John Kincaid and running back Destin Covington.

The Titans will travel to Class 4-A North Pontotoc sometime in the year. The schedule is not set in tone but Brooks feels like they are close to finishing it.

East Oktibbeha will travel to Velma Jackson on Aug. 10 to compete in a jamboree. They will take on Durant, Northeast Lauderdale and host Velma Jackson.

The Titans first regular season game will be on the road Aug. 16 at Leake County.

Many Titans will be busy this summer attending camps. Many of the lineman will participate in the lineman camp at East Mississippi Community College on June 26 and 27.

Many of the skill players and other players will attend individual camps at Alabama, LSU and Mississippi State.

East Oktibbeha will not participate in seven-on-seven action this summer due a reduction of passes in its offense. Brooks said the team will rely on the run due to his "big offensive line."
