Each year college programs search for offensive linemen to secure spots in their recruiting class. Saturday the Bulldogs added a good one to the class of 2013 in Kent Flowers.

The Hollandale, Miss. native was on hand for Mississippi State’s individual camp where he decided to turn his scholarship offer into a commitment to being a Bulldog.

"I'm actually committing to Mississippi State (Saturday)," Flowers said before informing Dan Mullen of his intention. "I know Ole Miss offered but I don't want to go to Ole Miss. I want to go to Mississippi State. I feel like I'm at home here so this is the school I'm choosing to come to."

The 6-foot-5, 300 pound offensive tackle has known MSU is where he wanted to spend his college career for some time now and Saturday was a good time to take the plunge.

"They said they were happy and I'm happy too," Flowers said. "I feel like this is a good place for me to get an education and play football and that's what I wanted."

Last season Flowers helped Hollandale-Simmons to an 8-5 record and a trip to the playoffs. This time around he has made the rounds at summer camps gaining knowledge and trying to get better.

"I feel like the coaches are good coaches," Flowers said. "Coach Hevesy is a good coach and I feel like he's going to teach me everything that I need to learn to be a great football player."

With his commitment Flowers feels confident in his decision and plans to stop the recruiting process.

"I'm shutting it down because this is the school I really want to go to right here," Flowers said. "I don't want to go out of state. I want to stay home and I feel like Mississippi State is my home so that's why I'm coming to play football here."

Flowers is the fourth commitment to the class of 2013 and the third in state pledge.

Mississippi State’s summer camp session continues this afternoon and runs through Friday.
