Ackerman High School volleyball player Dayna Presley considers the opportunity to play in the Mississippi Association of Coaches All-Star match today as an honor and privilege.

She also sees it as a learning experience.

Presley wants to be able to take something from the match that she can take back to the Lady Indians for her senior season.

"Hopefully going into my senior year, I can go out with an even bigger bang," Presley said.

Presley participates with the North team when the match takes place at the A.E. Wood Coliseum on the campus of Mississippi College at 6 p.m.

Former Ackerman volleyball coach Amanda Carden calls Presley a great player, who appears to have the desire to improve.

"She's been playing since she was in the 8th grade," Carden said. "When she was in the 10th grade, she started getting a lot of playing time with the varsity group, but the last couple of years she has really stepped it up and became a great defensive player."

Carden showed what she could do defensively as a junior by not only leading the Lady Indians, but the entire state of Mississippi with 314 digs.

"She has great instincts and finds a way to find the ball," Carden said. "At any time, I knew what to expect with her. At practice, she's always on the other side of the court digging up spikes and she loves doing that. It doesn't matter how hard anybody hits, she's going after it whether she gets to it or not."

The All-Star match will be three-game North and South format.

The North defeated the South in three-straight games 25-16, 25-10 and 25-14 last season to claim the overall series 4-3.

When the volleyball All-Star series began in 2005, the squads were divided into an East-West format with the East defeating the West 3-1 in a best of five series.

Presley looks forward to helping the North keep up its success against the South and meet some of her All-Star teammates in the process.

"I'm looking forward to getting to know some new people and seeing what it's like with some of the best players in Mississippi," Presley said. "It's going to be a great experience for me."
