Mr. James Monroe Johnson, 69, died Monday, July 9, 2012 in Starkville.
Funeral services will be held 2 p.m. Sunday, July 15, 2012 at Second Baptist Missionary Baptist Church with Rev. Nelson Forrest officiating.
Burial will follow at Memorial Gardens Cemetery.
Visitation will be held noon to 5:30 p.m. Saturday, July 14, 2012 at Century-Hairston Funeral Home Chapel.
Century-Hairston Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Mr. Johnson was an entrepreneur from Phillips and was a graduate of Eupora High School and Miami University.
He was the author of several books and served in the US Army for nine and a half years.
He is survived by his wife, Mary Cooper Johnson of Starkville; sons, Marcus Johnson of Eupora, Tantrance Johnson of Miami, Fla., and Todd Johnson of Los Angeles, Calif.; step-son, Ronald Cooper of Starkville; step-daughters, Kimberly Cooper of Los Angeles, Calif., and Beverly Cooper of Charlotte, N.C.; two sisters; three brothers; and many nieces and nephews.
