A night of wine and shopping is on the horizon for the women of the Starkville community as the third unWINE Downtown event begins 5:30 p.m. Thursday at the Greater Starkville Development Partnership.
Jennifer Gregory, GSDP Vice President for Tourism, said interest for the event has gained momentum since its initial launch.

“We held our first one in November of 2011 and had such a great response,” Gregory said. “So many people were asking when the next one would be, so we decided to do three a year in the spring, summer and fall.”

Tickets are $20 and include a wine tasting at 20 different downtown boutiques with at least 20 percent off all merchandise in participating stores.

“It’s primarily a ladies night and appeals to a variety of age groups,” she said. “We try to select wines that are different but affordable, and stay within the $15-or-less price range.”

Gregory said wines are carefully chosen for each tasting to offer selections that are good for the season.
“This time we’re featuring sparkling wines, rosé and prosecco,” she said. “We’ll also be tasting a chocolate red wine, which will be very different.”

Gregory said the variety of sponsors make the event successful, and the selection of items at participating stores will appeal to everyone throughout the evening.

“One of our boutiques, Mary Virginia’s, is a children’s consignment store that’s selling new uniforms,” she said. “This could be a great chance for parents to stock up on uniforms before school starts back.”

Gregory said the ticketed, after-hours event provides a good time for all with its intimate atmosphere.
“It’s just a great girls night out event with great discounts at these boutiques ... We encourage people to visit our downtown restaurants once the event is over,” she said.
