Willis Cummins

Mr. Willis O. Cummins, 82, died Sunday, Aug. 5, 2012 at North Mississippi Medical Center in Eupora.

Funeral services will be held 4 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 7, 2012 at Oliver Funeral Home Chapel in Eupora.
Burial will follow at Mt. Moriah Cemetery in Webster County.
Visitation will be held 5-8 p.m. Monday, Aug. 6, 2012 at the funeral home.
Oliver Funeral Home of Eupora is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Cummins was born in Choctaw County to J. H. and Minnie Mae Cummins. He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict from 1951 to 1954 and earned the rank of Staff Sargent. He was also a member of the Honor Guard.

Willis married Lorene Schaefer in 1951. After his honorable discharge from the Army, they moved to Texas City, Texas where they raised their three children.

He was a member of Monticello Baptist Church. He continued his career at Union Carbide until his retirement in 1985. Willis and Lorene moved back to Eupora in 1991.

Willis enjoyed deer hunting, fishing, building dune buggies and gardening. One of his favorite hobbies was grafting pecan trees and other plants. He even invented a new grafting technique.
It was his desire to always leave the world a better place for future generations.

He is survived by his wife, Lorene Schaefer Cummins of Eupora; daughter, Lisa (Pete) Anderson of Alvin, Texas; sons, Anthony Cummins of Lewisville, Texas, and Douglas Cummins of Houston, Texas; sister, Etter Reed of Eupora; and grandchildren, Jason Springer, Matthew Cummins, Brandon Baptiste, Paul Anderson and Sam Anderson.

He was preceded in death by his parents, J. H. and Minnie Mae Cummins; sister, Johnnie Sumrall; and brothers, Boyd, Jethro, Ellis, and Talmadge Cummins.
