Even after one week, Laura Richardson and Emma Katherine Hutto already feel at home on the Mississippi State University campus.

"I wanted it to feel comfortable," Richardson said. "I wanted to be able to relax and feel like I do in my house in Madison."

Hutto said she agreed and was thankful for the time she and Richardson were able to spend together during the decorating process.

"It was definitely a good bonding experience," Hutto said. "We got to know each other's personalities through it.

Hutto said the room is definitely not the traditional dorm room most have seen.

"It's very eclectic and homey and a lot of what we have was thrifted," she said. "We've each put our own twist on each of our sides."
These twists include many homemade projects from each of the girls including a shelf and picture frames, projects Richardson said the girls were inspired by on the popular website Pinterest.

"(Pinterest) is like a giant bulletin board on the Internet where you can find ideas for recipes, fashion and dorm room ideas," she said. "We were both very crafty."

Hutto said the bedspread Richardson purchased inspired many of the room's design elements and many of the girls on their floor have taken notice of the duo's styling efforts.

"Everyone who has come in as said it's very homey," she said. "We put a lot of effort into it, but we weren't expecting that kind of reaction."
Both young women said they have enjoyed their first week at MSU thus far and are both looking forward to the upcoming football season.

"I'm ready to get into the routine of it all," Richardson said. "I'm also ready to start meeting a lot of new people.

Hutto said she has been pleasantly surprised by the amount of activities provided for the freshmen students on campus.

"I didn't know there would so much to do," she said. "We've both been job hunting and exploring the campus."

As for their academic futures at MSU, Richardson said her goal is to pursue a degree in apparels and textile design.

"I love to sew and make jewelry," she said. "I'm actually going to be doing my own business up here selling my jewelry."

Hutto, an aspiring graphic design and photography major, said she hopes to enter into the sports world as a photographer.

"I love sports, but I'm not athletic enough to actually play," she said. "I like being on the creative side of things, and I'd love to work for a professional sports team one day."

While they may have started as potluck roommates, Hutto said she is thankful for Richardson and the friendship they have already formed.
"We made a good fit for each other," she said.
