MSU hires Brewster to coach receivers

August 23, 2012

Mississippi State announced the departure of receivers coach Angelo Mirando on Sunday and it only took four days for head coach Dan Mullen to find his man as a replacement.

That man is former University of Minnesota head coach Tim Brewster.
Brewster, who coached the Golden Gophers from 2007 to 2010, will coach wide receivers for the Bulldogs. Last year, Brewster served as a college football analyst for Fox Sports.

"Tim is a veteran football coach with extensive experience both in college and the NFL," Mullen said. "His tremendous amount football knowledge and ability to teach made him the perfect choice to join our staff at this time. He'll hit the ground running as we get ready for Jackson State."

In addition to spending time in college football, Brewster spent a five-year stint in the NFL with the San Diego Chargers and the Denver Broncos.

“Coaching is what I love and coaching is what I do best,” Brewster said. “It is a get-it-done business as a player and it is a get-it-done business as a coach, and today, I was just trying to put names with faces and my juices got flowing and I just had to jump in there.”

After spending some time away from the sideline, Brewster is please to back coaching.

"I appreciate the opportunity coach Mullen is giving me here at Mississippi State. The staff here has done a great job, and I'm going to catch up as quickly as possible."

The Bulldogs open the 2012 season against Jackson State on Sept. 1. Kickoff is set for 6 p.m., and the game will be televised on Fox Sports Net.
